Prostate DisordersThe prostate is a very clever little gland that works very well 99% of the time, but in certain circumstances it can fall fowl of medical conditions that affect it greatly, below is a list of different conditions that can affect the prostate gland, causing issues to the person suffering. Prostatitis Prostatitis is the inflammation of the prostate gland; this is the most common prostate problem in men that are younger in age. If the prostate grows to a large size then it can restrict the urethra (the tube that's carries your urine out of the body from the body), this can block the flow of urine and cause a lot of pain when trying to go toilet. This condition can be alleviated through antibiotic medication, or massaging the prostate. To massage the prostate it involves a lubricated finger inserted in the anus and rubbing the prostate gently, this will release the tension built up in the prostate and will result in the fluid within the prostate being ejaculated. Benign prostatic hyperplasia Affecting men that are older in age, this is a condition where the prostate grows bigger in size. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is not the same as Prostatitis as it is not caused by inflamed cells but is a natural occurrence in some males. The affects of benign prostatic hyperplasia are the same as prostatitis, but the treatment is different. There are two types of treatment, the first is medication and the second, that is more invasive, requires surgery to remove a part of the prostate to make it smaller in size so the prostate does not obstruct any tissue or organs close by. Prostate cancer Prostate cancer is the build up of cancerous cells in the prostate gland; this is normally found in older men and is the second largest killer of all the cancers. If not found early enough, the cancer can spread to other parts of the body making it extremely difficult to combat. There are many treatments to resolve prostate cancer from radiation therapy and chemotherapy to having the prostate gland totally removed by surgery. A lot of the surgeries involves with prostate cancer have side affects that can be quite challenging; these side affects include impotence, loss of hair, loss of sexual appetite and lack of energy. Summary Men who have suffered with prostate problems will tell you, that having any of the conditions involving the prostate are awful, they can be physically and emotionally painful. If you ever think there is the possibility that you have a problem in your prostate it is important to visit your doctor as soon as possible to get tested. If you are over sixty-five years in age it is prudent to have yourself checked once a year.
